I saw this for the first time today... and I am even more amazed at River Phoenix's talent. He plays the character so well, and convincingly. I love how the pace of the movie sort of depends on his character, and when he falls asleep somewhere, the next scene is him waking up, and the viewer doesn't know where he is or how he got there, either.
