A dense, confounding, profane and sprawling tale of the infinite possibilities of life, My Own Private Idaho is random and gritty in the way beat writing was in the fifties, at times too random and too gritty.
It's somewhat abrasive that way, and the story it tells isn't quite original enough to make an astounding impact, but the moments within are worthwhile enough to make it a good trip.
