Review of My Old Lady (2014) by Jack F — 20 Sep 2014
Bad material, repetitive writing, Mexican soap opera at its fines and three fine actors doing a great job of trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Expectations going in are high--coming out of the theater absolutely exhausted.
The film is talky, remains a stage play and is for sure 30 minutes too long. However, the real star of the film is the city of Paris. Grades: Paris 10; writing: 4; acting 8 plus. Plot: 1. You're going to tell me a crapola character like Kline's is going to turn down 9 million euros--literally ten million dollars? Not believable for a second.
I think critics are intimidated by films like this where you hae Paris, outstanding actors and writing and plot in the toilet. It just confuses many readers into thinking they are not cultured if they don't at least say something nice.
Not me. I'm tired of paying these high popcorn prices for zilch and being told not to believe my lying eyes. On the UGH Meter--a 4.
