Review of My Name Is Khan (2010) by Hiran K — 13 May 2010
If it is Karan Johar, there has to be melodrama, a lot of crying and on the positive side, some evergreen moments. And MNIK has all of it in ample measures.
In no way is MNIK vintage Kjo. Infact other than SRK and Kajol, there are no similarities with his K extravaganzas.
MNIK opens positively, with tremondous aplomb, thanks to a stellar performance by SRK and a thundering cameo by Zarina Wahab. The film looses almost of it's assurance in the second half, where the story and the screenplay drags on without any reason.
Hugely dissapointing in parts, MNIK works for SRK, in a never seen before avatar (although he tends to stretch the boundary of an autistic character beyond acceptable limits) and Kajol, who potrays the complex character of Mandira, with so much brilliance, she takes your breath away.
Don't expect candyfloss SRK-Kajol drama, and MNIK may well be a decent watch!
