Review of My Name Is Khan (2010) by Tejo Karthik D — 08 Dec 2011
Another film that I didn't watch for so long, because the trailer looked like a version of Forrest Gump! and, yes, I was wrong again! Through this film, Hindi mainstream film comes of age, and Karan Johar moves from making another romance to handling an explosive contemporary issue.
I would say this is the recognition from Hindi film industry of the post 9/11 trauma, and how it has affected people in diverse ways. Shahrukh is magnificent, and kudos to him for going out of his comfort zone of playing romantic heroes or stylish anti-heroes.
This is a sign of growth and maturity of both the actors and the director. Highly recommended, and I am lending my copy of the DVD to my Filipino friends, and feeling like a South Asian cultural ambassador! :).
