Review of My Name Is Khan (2010) by Bob H — 15 Jan 2011
The dream team of Karan Johar, Kajol and Shahrukh Khan collaborate for the third time. Unlike the campy romatic comedy and the family drama that precedes them, in My Name is Khan, they have undertaken their most ambitious and mature project to date.
And before people start making some stupid assumption, this movie is not about terrorism, or disabilities, or discrimination. It's about humanity, and a love that we should share for each other. Only Karan Johar could believe so firmly in this melodramatic naivete.
And I completely support it. It's so utterly hopeful that I'm sure people will roll their eyes. However, I couldn't help appreciating the sheer skill that was poured into this film. Johar seriously displays some of the most exquisite diirecting I have seen all year and his shots are brimming with the perfect amount of light and colour.
In addition comes some powerful performances, the most impressive being the superstar, Mr. Shahrukh Khan. He really is one of the best actors in the world, and in this movie he manages to craft his character so carefully, so that its humourous or dramatic when needed.
It really ends up being Bollywood's Forrest Gump, an entertaining journey through one mans life. And it really is entertaining. Its dramatic, its funny, its a feel-good film. Its Karan Johar's best.
Its one of the best films of 2010.
