Review of My Name Is Bruce (2007) by Tamara B — 03 Dec 2010
Have I gotten tired of Bruce Campbell? No, I refuse to believe it, especially when he makes a purely self-referential film like My Name is Bruce. Don't get me wrong - I didn't like this movie. In fact, I really didn't like this movie. Even at his worst, Bruce Campbell has done better than this, probably because at his worst, Bruce Campbell's works are not so intentionally bad. My Name is Bruce is so shamelessly terrible that it actually stops being good and just starts being lame.
Wow, I never thought I'd call a Bruce Campbell film lame.
There are some good parts to this movie. The protagonist, a Bruce Campbell FANATIC, chastises a friend for harping on his obsession. "If you don't like Bruce, you walk!" he declares, to which his friend responds, "Whoa! Dude! I thought Bubba Ho Tep was good!".
"EVERYBODY LIKED BUBBA HO TEP!" the Bruce Campbell fan snaps.
And even though it pains me to admit it, there's a reason for that: Bubba Ho Tep was so bad it was good. My Name is Bruce might be so good it's bad.
Still better than Iron Man 2.
