Review of My Man Godfrey (1936) by Kim S — 21 Jun 2007
Screwball comedy at it's finest. It's a very clever film with interesting comments on the many differences between rags and riches. Butler Godfrey (William Powell) is picked up from the streets by the snobbish family Bullock who underrates him as a human being.
This turns out to be Godfrey's one and foremost advantage, and it's really enjoyable to watch him give 'em all back more than they bargained for. My Man Godfrey is a treat, I love how rich people are depicted as indolences who are spoiled, superficial and solemn to a rather funny extent, even if that's nevertheless true.
