Review of My Man Godfrey (1936) by A.j. S — 17 Nov 2010
A quick and funny entry that ranks among the best of the 1930s screwball comedies, particularly because of its two leads- William Powell and Carole Lombard. Powell is the perfect choice for the anti-lunatic who counters every one of the film's other characters while giving the humor a subtle and dry tone while Lombard somehow manages to embody a character who's both totally crazy and completely sympathetic.
Even when the film is light on story, or skips development altogether, these two make us forget about thematic details and allow us to remember that the best comedy springs right out of that bizarre electricity that sparks when the right kind of people find one another.
