Review of My Man Godfrey (1936) by Jared P — 19 Nov 2008
They don't make them like this anymore. I've rarely seen a movie with cinematography this good, dialogue this good, and costume design this good. William Powell is one of my favorite actors, and movie depends on his ability to say ridiculous things with a straight face - and he doesn't pause to let you laugh.
This is a movie for people who can pay attention. You cannot watch this mindlessly. It's zany and clever, but I wouldn't call it a screwball comedy, so if you don't like those, don't let that stop from watching My Man Godfrey.
