Review of My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) by John P — 14 Oct 2017

Not for the first time had we seen the ponies go on quests to save the world, but this time we get a refreshing and realistic perspective on this fantasy world. When Twilight and friends go leave Equestria we are taken through a assortment of challenges and meet characters that are far from the traditional colorful array of happy, good natured ponies.

We see a darker world that adds some refreshing perspective that even this world has its problems. After seven seasons we know about the evil that lurks in the shadows but this time we have something truly evil.

Reality. The reality that we can be betrayed, that not every problem can be solved with singing and rainbows, that there are those who will take advantage of you. But despite all that this movie is able to shine a light on even the darkest pits of our flaws in a way that is both comedic and light hearted.

That is where this movie truly shines. We see characters who are so funny you forget who is the real villain. We have writers who are willing to make fun of the most ridiculous tropes of the series. Any fan of the show or a good family movie will want to see this if nothing else than to get a good laugh in.
