Review of My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) by Destiny S — 25 Feb 2018
I was a fan of the animated series for a long time, so I will try to avoid bias here. That being said, it's basically an episode of the show turned into a movie, pretty simple. However, this movie has the advantage of having extremely entertaining villains (particularly Tempest) and some catchy songs.
The animation takes a step up, but I wouldn't say the 2D models blend well with the CGI backgrounds. Yeah, if you aren't a fan of the series already and you weren't interested in getting into it (even then I wouldn't say this is the best place to start), I'd probably avoid it.
It expects you to know all these characters beforehand, and people who prefer serious movies might melt into a puddle of rainbow goo by the end of it. Cute and fun at the best, harmless at the worst, great for kids and fans but not much else.
Better than the trailers looked at the very least.
