Review of My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) by Caroline W — 05 Oct 2017
The movie was more than I expected. Great movie for kids and adults alike. I grew up on the original my Little pony and the new series/movie really delivers. There is always a lot going on in the background with pop culture references and jokes so it makes watching it more than once worth while.
The only down side is that there were some plot holes due to the absence of certain known characters. I feel that they could have handled this fairly easy and quickly but neglected to do so. There seems to be a prequel comic and junior novel so maybe it was addressed there. I won't go into specifics as it would include spoilers. If you or your children are familiar with the series then you will notice it.
No scene after the credits so stay only if you are enjoying jamming out to the sound track.
Over all it is a good story and tackles real friendship/socialization issues. These issues are relatable to young and old and often neglected in sunshine lollipop rainbow kid shows. We get the sunshine lollipop rainbow and a few cupcakes here while being true to how relationships work, evolve, and can be maintained.
