Review of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013) by Miguel E — 25 Jun 2013
A barely tolerable and overall disappointing movie.
Whilst the script itself was of the usual MLP:FIM calibre, the animation quality hardly demanded a theatre release; most of the dialogue is almost carbon-copied from Seasons 1 and 2 of the series.
Couple that with a cliched setting for the movie, character design and presentation that screams "Marketing Movie for Hasbro dolls!" and the replacing of round-bodied ponies for stick-insect humans that do nothing to improve the image issues most young girls have to face, and the entire thing can barely be recommended to anyone save the most die-hard fans of the series; and even half of them will likely take exception to it once the fanaticism for the series dies away and the grim reality is left in its place.
It could have been something great. It isn't.
