Review of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013) by Kyle A — 24 Jun 2013
As a member of the brony community, I was very skeptical when I heard about Hasbro making a humanized version of the MLP gang. When the concept art came out I was very much against going to the movie. The funky tails and wings on the human girls looked very weird to me.
It wasn't until I saw the trailer for the movie did I go, "Okay, this doesn't look too bad." So I decided to go see it. The movie was only available in my town for two days and they weren't opening night.
Many reviews I read online said that Hasbro dropped the ball with this movie. After seeing it, I have to say that I have NO idea how they came up with that kind of vibe from that movie. It was cute, funny, and a bit scary at some points.
It was everything I had hoped for plus some. From Pinkie Pie breaking the fourth wall more than once, to Twilight constantly forgetting in the human world that she's not a pony. It was a great movie.
There were tons of hidden easter eggs that only an older audience would be able to understand. The only minor complaint I have is that I didn't like the addition of pony ears, wings and tails that happened near the end, But otherwise I loved it.
I will definitely be watching it again.
