Review of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013) by Dammy G — 30 Jun 2013
Not sure if the critiquing community wants to be solely represented by an outfit calling itself "Topless Robot". Anyways, there are certainly issues with the film ranging from pacing that speeds up to a rush towards the end, a need for about 10-15 minutes more run-time to cover very thin plot points and wrap up loose threads, and the badgirl suffers from Stupid Villain Syndrome near the end. The film very nearly anti-climaxes itself.
All that said, the story is more engaging than a high-school drama should be, well-written and excellently voice-acted, with more than a few twists on expectations. The animation is clean and loaded with enjoyable visuals. And most importantly, it doesn't make the mistake of talking down to the target audience, which makes it a non-squirmy experience for adults who normally would rather drop their kids off and hit another theater altogether for the latest R-rated bloodfest.
Albeit with issues that could have stood some improvement, Equestria Girls is a solid entertainment value.
