Review of My Life Without Me (2003) by Lillian T — 19 Sep 2006
Sarah Polley is one of the best young actresses working and this is probably her finest hour on film. As a young mather with terminal cancer Polley is hugely affecting, particularly in a heartwrenching scene in which she makes tapes for her daughters to listen to on their birthdays that she won't be arond for.
Sad as the subject is the film never becomes bogged down in melancholy and director Isabelle Coixet never subjects us to the horror of a death scene. As well as Polley's fine turn theres strong support, most notably from Mark Ruffalo.
