Review of My Life Without Me (2003) by Luca V — 22 Mar 2008
Mi vida sin mi. When I read this title and the name of the director Isabelle Coixet, I thought it was a French film. Actually Coixet is a Spanish, and the film is shot in English, located in British Columbia (Canada), acted by the young alternative artist Sarah Polley.
Polley as Ann, is going to die, so she tries to settle things for her in order not to have regrets, and for her beloved. She finds herself a lover, who is also a quantity surveyor who, apart from Polley, would make Ikea happy, because he lives in a house where the only piece of furniture are poetry books. He uses them like seats.
Polley tests a couple of women for the role of new wife for Don (a swimming pool builder) and new mother of Patsy and Polly (they do not love smashed potatoes).
The oncologist more than a cure gives Polley candies, and he acts as an executor.
Last but not least the romantic role played by 24 hours Launderettes.
