Review of My Life in Ruins (2009) by James H — 10 Nov 2009
Straightforward. They liked Nia Vardalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding so much that they made a movie about her in Greece. I thought it was a sequel when I first saw the trailer, but it's independent of that movie.
Georgia (Vardalos) is travel guide in Greece who is down on her luck, single, kind of depressed and hates her job. This is the story about her turning it all around on one of her tours. So, how is this different than My Big Fat Greek Wedding? It's essentially the same movie, only this time, the humor is coming from a hodgepodge of a tour group instead of ethnic humor of a family.
What it is is basically getting an eclectic group of zany characters, sticking them in a bus and letting them play off of each other for ninety minutes, and it is funny; there are enough laugh worthy jokes here to keep your attention entertained, it's just nothing special; you know exactly what your in for and where this movie is going within the first five minutes.
Not bad, but nothing you really need to seek out.
