Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Ricardo H — 07 May 2008
INTERESTING BUT NOT EXCEPTIONAL.
I think it is almost impossible to make any kind of documentary without letting the personal opinions and even unconscious feelings of the director get into film. In this case, though, the director gave into those feelings and started trying to prove something, and when he couldn't, he stopped presenting facts and his filming became more biased.
Ultimately, this story is really not about a child who paints masterpieces, if she in fact paints them. It is more about the adult world, the cutthroat competition in the art world, and the need for the media to try to expose people as frauds because that gets more ratings than just presenting the true story.
