I will fully admit that I didn't see the twist coming in the end. I thought it was weird that they second boyfriend always seemed to one up the first boyfriend, and that Jesse would get involved with someone as conceited as Troy.
I fully expected that Ethan would end up working for Troy and things would spark from there.
