Review of My Gal Sal (1942) by Mac B — 22 Jul 2012
Plot: silly but with some cute jokes. Songs: Paul Dresser, known for sweet sentimentality (i.e., kitsch)- pleasant if you suspend all sense of irony or sophistication. But Victor Mature is appealing and Rita Hayworth- well, it was the year she turned 25 and she never looked more gorgeous.
Her acting was skillful and her dancing excellent (her singing dubbed). And there are Carol Landis, James Gleason, and Phil Silvers on hand to add color and charm. Enjoyable, forgettable, inoffensive.
