Review of My Fellow Americans (1996) by Kenneth D — 15 Sep 2008
Attempted presidential assassination, rogue Secret Service agents, a stupid Vice President, and aging political rivals make for a humorous adventure in this 1996 comedy.
Jack Lemmon plays a former Republican President, beaten eight years previous to the setting by his biggest rival, played by James Garner.
As the present-President, played by Dan Aykroyd, attempts to leave behind his own legacy (he was Lemmon's V.P.), Lemmon and Garner discover corruption. Once inside White House officials find out that they know about the cover-up and plan to notify the press, a plan is concocted to dispose of them. They manage to escape death, and thus begins a thousand mile journey to expose the wrong-doings, all the way, meeting real Americans.
This film is absolutely hilarious and will surely leave you rolling. The legendary Lauren Bacall, playing Lemmon's First Lady, joins Wilford Brimley, Sela Ward, Bradley Whitford, and John Heard in the comical supporting cast.
