Review of My Father the Hero (1994) by Rcavey92212 — 18 Apr 2020
For some odd reason I absolutely love this movie. It's so wrong on so many levels especially since it's basically poking fun at pedophilia amongst other inappropriate things. But it just holds a special place for me. Maybe its because I saw it with my friends freshman year in high school. And also kinda fell for the cute boy. It centers around an absent father played by an adorably goofy Gerard Depardieu (Bogus) and his sassy, attitudey, liar of a daughter played by a perfectly **** young Katherine Heigl (Knocked Up). They go on a vacation to a tropical island and because she wants to appear older than she is cooks up a lie that her father is actually her boyfriend. Like I said it's so wrong but hilarious hijinks ensue including but not limited to a scene in which the father performs "Thank heaven for little girls" at the resort talent show. The movie is funny and heartfelt and it hits all the right overly dramatic notes for a gem of a guilty pleasure. It's also directed by pulp horror director Steve Miner of Halloween H20 and Warlock.
Budget: N/A.
Box Office: $25m.
