Review of My Fair Lady (1964) by David T — 30 Apr 2010
This was a good musical. Good musical numbers, well done story, nice characters. A worthy Oscar winner, all in all, and well deserving of its status as a beloved classic.
That being said, of course, there are still a number of things in this movie that didn't click. While most of the musical numbers were really well done, some of them just didn't work. But name a musical in which that isn't the case. On the other hand, the plot didn't really work sometimes-- I felt that Hepburn's character just magically transforms into a lady overnight. Oh, and this marks the second Audrey Hepburn movie in which I really wanted to punch her character in the face (in this one, at least, that was what she was going for). She was just over the top annoying. And the fact that certain plot devices were either handled too quickly or just didn't work is odd, because this movie was way too long. This was not a 3 hour story.
All in all, however, this is definitely a movie worth watching-- the positives far outweigh the negatives.
