Review of My Fair Lady (1964) by Cory M — 30 Mar 2012
Such a loverly musical that beautifully blends unforgettable characters, a sharp script, magnificent performances, and wonderful musical numbers. What makes "My Fair Lady" so fantastic is that the dialogue scenes are just as engaging and entertaining as the musical numbers, something that can't be said for all musicals.
The lovable characters are incredibly heightened by the remarkable actors that portray them. Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison are magical together and spark one of the greatest cinematic romances ever.
There's not even one kiss. Many criticize this film because Audrey Hepburn's vocals were dubbed over with Marni Nixon's. I for one will defend this film to a tee. This practice of dubbing was not an uncommon practice in those days, and though sometimes the actors' mouths are a bit off, all of the musical numbers look and sound fantastic.
Some are comical, some are brash, and some make my heart soar with grand feelings of romance. Such cherishable movie. My fifth favorite of all time.
