Review of My Fair Lady (1964) by James Joseph L — 22 Jun 2009
The George Bernard Shaw play Pygmalion gets the musical treatment and works brilliantly as My Fair Lady.
Audrey Hepburn shows all her acting talents in this movie and proves she was not just a beautiful face.
Wonderful songs and fine performances including Rex Harrison as Professor Higgins who takes in a cockney dustman's daughter Eliza Doolittle (Hepburn) as his.
Elocution "experiment".
Stanley Holloway is great as Eliza's father - the dustman Alfred Doolittle and his song and dance moments are brilliantly performed. Look out for "Wiv a little bit of luck" and "I'm getting married in the morning".
Some great comic moments, authentic sets as well as memorable numbers put this musical up there with the best ever made.
