Review of My Dinner with Andre (1981) by Jean G — 13 Aug 2008
Excellent film about two old friends who are playwrights who finally fix a date to sit down for dinner together. The whole film takes place on this table, and the centre of it is the conversation that takes place there.
The main chunk of the conversation is a narration of Andre's bizarre experiences and a comparison between the masks worn in theatre and the masks we wear in our so-called real lives. Which are more real? The script and dialogue are very well done, and the fact that it kept me stuck for about two hours says something about that.
