Review of My Dinner with Andre (1981) by Michael S — 22 Jul 2009
This is the kind of film that makes me want to stop watching it, through no fault of its own but simply because it sparks my mind and muse and forces me to look into my life from the inside out. This may be because I've had countless conversations of this ilk throughout my life and always felt lucky for it but also gone through that struggle, people's universl struggle, to try and pull focus on existence apart from the routines of goals, schedules, obligtions, responsibilities.
..Its also a film that makes me happy to be who I am. It makes me want to call people up at 2am or pull out those poems I wrote half-heartedly in high school but which must be clearer mirrors now into who I was then.
There are times when the neurotic pitch of the conversation, or the specifics of the rather pretentious theater world they belong to, distances me but it all keeps widening and widening to encompass the real issues one must face if they're going to wake up and look life in the face.
An endlessly fascinating and galvanizing film.
