Review of My Dinner with Andre (1981) by Paul Z — 24 Apr 2012
Wally's dinner with Andre does not begin like conversation, but listening to a one-sided pontificating narcissist. No drama, no banter. Just one guy obsequiously yielding to a self-indulgent chatterbox's pseudo-spiritual epiphanies, self-mythologizing and comparisons, phony self-deprecation, petty ranting about how emotionally uptight and repressed everyone is.
But hang in there. It will become mutual and passionate, and you will hear some of the most truthful things about the society we live in that I've ever heard said in a movie.
