Review of My Cousin Vinny (1992) by Movie K — 26 Jun 2011

Quie a good movie. Was slow in the beginning then it pick up the pace. Ralph Macchio and Mitchell Whitfield are on a road trip. They went to a petrol kiosk to buy things. Ralph forgot to make payment for a can of tuna.

Then a cop is tagging behind them, eventually stop them and were bring back to police station. The clerk of the kiosk is shot dead in a robbery. Ralph admit to the crime, not knowing the police refer to the robbery/murder.

Making a phone call, he call his mum to get an attorney. Her mum recommend his cousin Joe Pesci. Joe arrives in town with his fiance Marisa Tomei. She is expert in automobile. In the cell, Mitchell is scared of been sex by inmates.

The part when Joe thought he is the cousin and the words said are really funny about screwing around. Fact is Joe took many years to pass his law and didn't stand trial for any case. He lied to Fred Gwynne the judge he have many years of experience.

Lane Smith is the other lawyer. First hearing Joe is scolded for his clothes and attitude. He doesn't know the procedures and was charge for contempt. Marisa has to bail him out. Second one is the same.

Mitchell hires another to fight for him. Joe ask Ralph for last chance. He plan to go make friend with Lane to see his files. Marisa told him he has the right to do so. Fred check his name and can't find any data.

Joe lie he is using another name. The new name he says is a famous lawyer who recently just die. Joe original suit got dirty and he can't get a new one, ended up weaing a magician suit in a 2nd hand store.

The other lawyer stutters and is fired by Mitchell. Joe performs well this time round. First witness he question how can he cook so fast in 5 minutes. Second witness he ask how can he see clearly through his dirty windows and bushes.

Third witness he question the old lady how can she see clearly with her thick glasses. Fred confront Joe on his name, he quickly says the spelling is wrong. Next trial, Lane brings in an FBI expert on automobiles.

He says the markings show that it belong to the same car by Ralph. Marisa ask Joe if she can help him but he is so stress he piss her off. Looking at the photo she took, his next witness he call her in.

Marisa work as a mechanic before. Lane give her a trick question, saying she is not qualify. She answer the question well and everyone is convince. Marisa explain the car markings made very clearly and it belong to another type of car.

Since it is made by GM, the colours and tyres are same for all models. Earlier Joe ask the sheriff to check on stolen cars. Turns out there is a same model of car reported stolen by 2 teenage boys that match what Marisa said.

And they have the same gun and round found at the scene. The duo is proven not guilty and charges drop. Joe wants to quickly run away before the judge find out his identity. Marisa call in a friend to edit his profile.

He made a lucky escape.
