Review of My Bodyguard (1980) by Tom R — 01 Aug 2011
Even though it was released in 1980, My Bodyguard is a very 70's movie. Like Ordinary People, it has slow yet tender moments and captures the tension of high school. There is a subplot that seems like only padding that involves the main character's eccentric grandmother and a hotel that pretty much goes nowhere and accomplishes little.
.. I think it's supposed to be funny, but comedy has evolved so much over the decades. The high school bodyguard story is interesting, but a great deal of time is spent in the hotel. Still, My Bodyguard is worth a rental and it's better than its unofficial successor Drillbit Taylor.
