Review of My Blueberry Nights (2007) by Paula T — 21 Dec 2008
Such a nice movie. And not "nice" in that weak sense it usually has. But in the best, most meaningful sense. This movie is romantic, can't deny it. But not one of those romantic films for which "romantic" is the only adjective that may define them, those mind-numbing films which seem to search trough your dumb, immature side. No. This is an INTELLIGENT piece of art. Intelligent, because it doesn't focus on what happens between the two lovers, but in the inner journey that is necessary for each one of them to be ready to fall in love. And it's art, because (thanks Won Kar Wai and his director of photography), the movie is visualy amazing, colorful, almost hipnotic.
You'll like it. And, well, if you don't, at least you'll appreciate its not being a normal film, and its not underestimating the viewers intellectual and emotional capacity.
