Review of My Blueberry Nights (2007) by Vicky C — 11 Feb 2009
Good idea, but not so well developed. The story is lovely but is ruined by poor dialogue, really bad unnatural dialogue that even great actors can't bring to life. The direction was good but the "motion blur" filming was a little bit indiscriminated and annoying at points, it didn't help to let the story develop naturally. The supporting actors were potencially better than the main one: Norah Jones. I love her as a singer but she's hopeless as an actress, all she did was look pretty to the camera. Rachel Weisz is breathtaking as always, so is Natalie Portman even though I'm not a fan of her acting. But the real deal is David Strathairn. He's simply amazing.
Overall, it was a flawed but not bad attempt for a movie.
