Review of My Blueberry Nights (2007) by Annie C — 05 Oct 2008
Why's everyone hating the fact that Wong Kar-wai is doing a film in English?! I think as a good director, it's good to experiment and like he did, Wong extended a short film he did a while ago, added more elements and stories that happened in different cities as the main character travels, and put it into a different culture/language.
My Blueberry Nights was not as strong as Wong's other films, but cinematically, he kept his old techniques with filming lots of details on gestures and objects(which were extremely beautiful with the bright colors).
A simple story with a simple but positive message which I love. Maybe it's because Wong was trying too hard to make the story more diverse, too much ideas but too little time, the result was lack of or had too much of something, which made me kind of disliked it.
