Review of My Blueberry Nights (2007) by Aizuddin A — 09 Oct 2008
It's a bit of a bore. It's dry.
But it's overall cinematography and movie direction is somewhat atypical in that it's more akin to Hong Kong movies. It is after all the directorial debut of Wong Kar Wai in Hollywood.
The acting of all its main cast are laudable. Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman were great. Even the rookie actor Norah Jones was quite good. They made full use of what little the characters have to offer. I personally think that the characters could've been further developed.
And the "journey" taken by Norah Jones' character should've been more dramatic and slightly more elaborate. A mere 2 places doesn't seem too "dramatic". Perhaps one or two more journeys before heading back to NY would be better.
