Review of My Blueberry Nights (2007) by Su-Anne C — 31 Jan 2009
A rather suprising swift pace for Wong Kar Wai (yeh, pun intended). Unlike most of his films, this time the lead hero & heroine are more of a spectator role. We read other perople's stories through their eyes.
Can't stop seeing shadows of Tony Leung in Jude's acting, but Jude was less refrained. Rachel Weisz was amazing. I thought she would be just a bimbo but she turned out to be much more. Her scenes are one of the highlights in the film. Nathalie Portman's role on the contrary is a bit disappointing though.
But as usual with WKW's stuff, it's not really about plot nor believability. It's the mood, the philisophy and the hang over of the imageries that matters. -Su-.
