Review of My Bloody Valentine (2009) by Eddie G — 16 Oct 2010
WELL WELL WELL- WHY WOULD I RENT THIS ONE? Elementary my dear Watson- its on 3D so I assumed it would work on my tv but just like my Blockbuster friend (manager at one of the stores) explained to me- this movie was made in 3D but requires the red and blue cardboard glasses and they don't come with the movie. Since it was on Blu-ray I still decided to rent it as the reviews on Blockbuster were quite good. Friends, if you stick to my rules of wisdom when watching this kind of movie you will do fine like I did;.
1- watch during daylight hours, especially near a window where you can see outside to remind you that you are safe.
2- watch the gag reel FIRST - IMPORTANT so you know how much fun the actors had while filming the movie. Also watch how the FX were made PRIOR to movie.
3- Lock the entire house and set the alarm to ensure no one can come in and for sanity check examine under beds, in closets, bathtubs, garage, etc.
4- Read the reviews to have an idea if its too intense or total garbage.
OK you are READY NOW...NEVER DEVIATE FROM MY LIST...
I will commence by saying that BLU-RAY MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE! OMG people it felt like I was there, its so crystal clear, so VIVID every detail, nuance, incredible to say the least! The special effects were gruesome and this film is bloody, with numerous killings. Now if you have a 3D TV you can watch it in 2D because you get the option. It was filmed in 3D but as I said earlier it requires cheapo red blue glasses. Still it does not detract from "enjoying" the movie experience. In My Bloody Valentine we have Jensen Ackles who stars as Tom, a guy who once caused a horrible accident inside of a mine, only to have the sole survivor (Harry Warden) turn around and slaughter 22 people ... but now it's ten years later and Tom is returning to his home town, and guess what? It's time for another batch of horrific murders to hit the scene. But WHO is the crazy slasher? Is it the original killer Harry Warden -- or is it the short-fused young sheriff? Heck, it could even be Tom! What makes this one different from the horror/slasher film that I usually stay away from? Instead of foolish teenagers, the movie is populated with adults (although some were kind of imbeciles); it adds an air of mystery-style "whodunnit?", and it never warranted any sort of sequels. let me tell you I kept on wondering who was doing the killings until the explosive conclusion where everything is revealed! It contains very graphic images of violence and many killings with a pick-axe so forewarned is forearmed. So obviously it's not high art, and it's certainly not for all tastes. However; it grabbed my attention and will leave you in suspense from beginning to end. Oh yes one more thing: the killer is very good looking! Recommended especially for Halloween!!
