I haven't seen the original, so I can't comment on that, but this movie was just dumb. It didn't give me any reasons to care either way for any of the characters, it is bloody and gory and has some cool 3d effects, but that's where my praise ends.
The story is interesting enough to make a decent movie, but this movie isn't it.
