Review of My Bloody Valentine (1981) by Craig W — 23 Jun 2008
Its a cool idea, disgruntled miner returns every Valentines Day to murder all the people at the valentine dance after an accident 20 years prior, or does he? The deaths are a little disappointing; the camera pans away before he kills and we just see the aftermath, which for a slasher movie is a shame, because I like most slasher fans, want to see some good killing! The characters are all annoying, the dialogue is terrible and dated and it like most other slasher films was just riding on the coat tails of decent slashers i.e. Halloween and Friday the 13th. I did like the killers calling card, a human heart cut out and placed in a valentines day candy box, but then again would you really fall for a box oozing with blood? Found that quite funny. Im really surprised it didnt spawn a sequel as the killer (who I did not really see coming) got away, albeit not all in one piece.
There is a remake next year that is apparently in 3D, although I have no idea why? I hope that it will not become screwed up like the recent remake of another 80s slasher classic Prom Night, which was diabolical!
