Review of My Bloody Valentine (1981) by Neil O — 16 Jan 2009
Easily one of the best of the post-HALLOWEEN slasher movies and clearly influenced by that film and subsequent serial killer movies, this 80s Canadian slasher has many innovative and different aspects which make it interesting, in particular the atmostpheric small town setting which is highly claustrophobic.
With average production values, crisp cinematography and likeable leads, it benefits by slightly poking fun at itself without turning into a horror-comedy whilst the cast plays it straight. Add a few good 'jolts', plenty of gore (much cut by Paramount on it's release) and you have a great piece of hokum.
