Review of My Bloody Valentine (1981) by Zack H — 25 Jan 2009
It's funny how much I love old school slasher movies, and yet I have a hard time giving them a high score. The obvious reason is that the stories and acting are often pretty subpar. But people don't flock to slasher movies in droves for those things.
They come to see an interesting killer, or boring killer, kill people in interesting ways. And that's what we get in this movie. Luckily, I was able to see the newly released extended cut of the film on DVD with all the gory kills on full display.
Very entertaining stuff. The killer's mythology isn't all that amazing, but the kills themselves are a sight to behold. If you're into the genre, give this a shot. The effects were innovative and the film itself is a decent little thrill ride.
Just try and overlook some of the terrible acting. Now I'm ready to check out the 3-D remake.
