Review of My Bloody Valentine (1981) by Paul J — 16 Sep 2010
With entertaining direction and characters that are mildly interesting, this turns into an above average slasher flick. At the very least, it's better than the awful remake. (Although, the only thing superior in the new version, is that they keep you guessing until the end who the killer is with better results.
) That said, watching the original 1981 uncut version is an interesting experience. You can see where the censors messed around with the gore effects and to be frank they butchered it - to the point where I would have hated the version that was available for the past 25 years.
Thank God, the uncut DVD is available now. The effects are worth seeing, at least for slasher fans.
