Basic summary (made by me):

this miner gets trapped in the early 60's cause his supervisors left for a valentines day dance and didnt check something. Him and a couple others get trapped in an explosion, so he eats the others to survive. He gets admitted to a mental ward where he breaks out and kills the two supervisors, cutting out their hearts and leaving a message for the town to never host another valentines celebration or else. Nearly 20 years later, for the first time a dance is being held on Valentine's Day, and everyone's losing their hearts.

My Bloody Valentine is definatly one of the better slashers of the 80's. it is very well paced (even the slow parts werent half bad), pretty suspenseful, and the whole section in the mine; downright eerie in its claustraphobic atmosphere. the bizarre scoring in some scenes adds to the tension.

Now my complaint deals with the MPAA cuts. these were just downright AWFUL. Its like watching a bloodbath of a film on the CW. just ridiculous. I spent 3 years trying to hunt this movie down, and THAT was my reward. Those cuts were utterly fucking ridiculous. what saves it are the the fact that the film feels so brutal in some scenes that I walk away mildly satisfied. but still. luckily the dvd I picked up was only about $5 (came with April Fool's Day, another overlooked gem). I hope to find the uncut version soon and update this review on its special effects.
