Review of My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) by Aaron B — 18 Feb 2010
I just can't be happy about a movie that so blatantly follows every cliche possible. Some critics praised it because the people in the movie were real and not Hollywod cutouts. I'd argue that the stars in Up in the Air were twenty times as real as anyone in this movie.
John Corbett was likable and Joey Fatone skillfully provides good comic relief, but unfortunately not enough to relieve me from how awful the rest of the movie was. The rest of the cast was over the top, at best, or boring.
The story was- scratch that, there was no story. It's in the title. Two cultures clash and learn to love each other. End of story. Whoopee. Not much to distinguish it from every other romantic comedy or culture clash movie.
