Review of My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) by Shelton L — 14 May 2010
THIS IS NOT A ROMANTIC COMEDY IT IS A HORROR FILM. I spent the whole time being like, I am going to be Julia Roberts, only at the end of the day when the cameras stop rolling, I'm not going to become a super successful actress all still be me, watching my best friend get married. Of course for this to happen many things would need to first fall into place, like me being in love with my best friend and for gay marriage to be legal, but still, I found the concept chilling and scary.
Like most romantic comedies (horror films) which star Julia Roberts, this one is lovely and as digestible as fluff. Its not intelligent or particularly well made but it is thoroughly enjoyable. The plot is rather straight forward and the cinematography is rather viewer friendly, but it has a little pizzaz that makes it worth the watch. It could be, what I now consider a 'vintage' Julia Roberts performance. She does really light up a screen when she walks on and her wonderful film chemistry with Rupert Everett, makes the film feel close and personal.
Watch this film, just make sure, you are not doing so alone at home on a Friday night or you might just start counting how many cats you know own and begin worrying that they don't love you like they use to.
