Quite an interesting unconventional love-drama set against the backdrop of Thatcher's Britain.

'My Beautiful Laundrette' is quite an interesting film - it clearly deals with issues of sexuality, race, and politics in 80's Britain. The film deals with these issues quite well, and... well... that's it.

My main problem with this film is that it's just a bit... flat. Daniel Day-Lewis gives a very convincing reflection of his character's inner conflict, but the main performance by Gordon Warnecke just fell short of what was needed.

Sure, he looks the part, and has the endearing grin down to a tee, but I never really got the same sense of difficulty or struggle that I got from Day-Lewis, and this kind of made it hard for me to sympathise with him.

Worth a watch, but lacking.
