Review of My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) by Codie E — 21 Jan 2010
Frears and Kureshi's intelligent subversion is full of political messages and great social meanings, focal points for British cinema. Seth is excellent as the hopeless and grief ridden father, while this is Day-Lewis' breakthrough.
Warnecke isn't great in his role and the rest of the cast are forgettable. Time has dented the film, both in terms of micro elements and meanings, but there are still some things to be learnt from this.
