I think it's great. The issue is it IS a true story, so if you're expecting something different from what actually happened, it would be like asking for The Alamo to end in a victory for its defenders. It is very moving to see a supposedly "perfect" guy succumb to cancer, but that's the sad part that the "perfect" life builds up to.
Plus, it's tough to do all that on a cancerous leg.
