Review of Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) by Codie E — 22 Nov 2010
I went into the film not knowing the story of the Bounty and what took place on the boat in 1788-89 and the film did little to help in the opening act, which was pretty messy indeed. Not helped by the quality of sound and picture the story was at first, hard to grasp. However, once aboard the Bounty the story became more focused and the film settled into an exciting and entertaining yarn.
Aided by the impressive performances of Laughton and Gable, Frank Lloydâ(TM)s film managed to stir up anger that brings to mind Stanley Kubrickâ(TM)s Paths of Glory and even Steven Spielbergâ(TM)s Amistad decades later, bringing to light the possible influence of this film even to this day.
